The JAFA Poetry Slam hosts our third open slam of the 2018 season! There is a short open mic open to all ages at the start, followed by an 18+ slam. There will only be FOUR open slam heats this year followed by our Auckland Regional Final in October. The winners of the Regional will be flown(!) to the National Poetry Slam this year.
In conjunction with Merge Cafe and Lifewise.
DIETRICH SOAKAI is of Tongan, Samoan, Irish, Scottish, English, Fijian and German descent. He was a member of the South Auckland Poets Collective and was one of the founders of the first ever inter-high school Spoken Word Competition – WORD The Front Line. He has performed Spoken Word Poetry around various parts of America and has toured Australia. He has also facilitated workshops around the country and is specifically passionate about creating spaces where young people feel empowered to stand in their words and have the courage to share their story through the medium of poetry.
