Grants to help Aucklanders be more active
Applications are open for Auckland Council’s regional sport and recreation grant funding programme for organisations inspiring and encouraging Aucklanders to be more active.
A total of $1,000 is available to support regional organisations in their efforts to inspire and help Aucklanders to be more active improve their health and wellbeing through access to activities or initiatives. This grant programme is for projects with an regional impact and complements local grant funding available through local boards.
Outcomes sought through the fund are:
There are affordable and accessible options for participation in informal physical activity, recreation and sport.
Our diverse communities enjoy healthy and active lifestyles.
· Māori participation in sport and recreation activities has increased.
· Participants in a wide range of physical activities, recreational activities and sports are equally able to access suitable facilities and outdoor environments (this grant programme will not fund capital works).
The fund will target:
Supporting more equitable access to those sport and active recreation activities that do not currently benefit from dedicated or council-subsidised facilities and outdoor environments.
· Programmes that enable children and young people to develop skills which will help them have lifelong participation in sport and recreation.
Providing or supporting easier and more affordable access to populations with low participation rates in sport and recreation, particularly:
o Māori aligned to the draft Māori Sport and Recreation Plan – Te Whai Oranga.
o Children and young people aligned to I Am Auckland Strategic Action Plan.
o Populations with health and wellbeing needs.
o Those facing other barriers, such as access to transport and information.
