Matariki Rhythmz 2016

The Youth Performance Trust (YPT) announces Matariki Rhythmz. Coinciding with the month of Matariki Rising and part of the Auckland Matariki Festival. Matariki Rhythmz offers high school students in the Auckland area a unique opportunity to learn, create and express their urban cultural identity through music and dance.

Matariki Rhythmz is a music and dance event whereby participants are able to create original compositions and choreography and present these on a stage of their peers to a panel of expert judges.

Matariki Rhythmz is a culturally inclusive event with a base in Polynesian and urban culture. Apart from being fun, we seek to raise the profile and significance of Aotearoa and the Pacific’s amazing cultures, language as well as its music and dance expressions.

Matariki Rhythmz is for high school students under the age of 19 (as of May 2016) and is a great opportunity to engage in a positive event based on their strengths, identities and backgrounds. The participants will have the opportunity to be mentored by well-known personalities, perform on a stage with their peers and go through a process from creation to execution aligned with criteria they will receive feedback about.
