TAKORO: MAORI GAMES & SPORTS | WORKSHOP

Historically games were an important part of the Maori community. They focused on developing alertness and memory as well as storytelling through dances and songs.  Three inspirational tutors will impart their knowledge and help students learn about the importance of rituals and games.

The three workshops.
Ti Rakau: A traditional stick game that emphasises hand and eye coordination, rhythm and song.
Whai: Traditional string game used to test problem solving skills, hand co-ordination and storytelling.
Pukana: A fast interactive game that teaches students how to pukana with pride and learn about its true meaning.
