MUSIC AND ME, By Victoria Schmidt

Kinetic Wayfinding Theatre Company Presents a 2014 season of the powerful play Music and Me.

Written by talented playwright Victoria Schmidt, Music and Me is set in present day South Auckland, Music and Me is a slice of urban kiwiana that gives insight into the gritty world of the Manurewa nightlife. After the turn of the millennium, the growing phenomenon of street prostitution has emerged on the streets of Manurewa, still plagued by youth gangs.

RICKY, a twenty-something hardened, emotionally detached male prostitute and small time dealer is stuck in a rut. Despite the numerous beatings from clients, his guilt and inability to let go of the past binds him to the very life he despises. RICKY lives his life on the edge and has come to accept the events that have shaped him. RICKY’S 2PAC-obsessed, homeless friend ALEXANDRA (Alex) believes her dreams and life as a busking rapper will help them get out, but is painfully reminded that ‘There are no dreams here Alex. You take so many steps forward you find yourself back where you started”.

Music and Me tells of a world that runs deeper than the happy, bustling crowds at the popular flea market stalls; and follows the lives of four societal loose-ends with an unexpected kinship, who struggle to make something of their existence.

The production will feature a brand new cast of exciting young actors.
