NEW Matariki Special – Harakeke (flax) Weaving Class – 4 hours ($28)
Matariki is one of the most significant celebrations in the Maori calendar and marks the new year. Matariki is a cluster of stars that appears in the north eastern sky at dawn in late May/ early June and it marks a new phase in life. To celebrate Matariki, Kaipatiki Project is hosting a special Matariki Harakeke (flax) Weaving class.
Our tutor is harakeke educator Judy Te Hiwi – join her in this fun, friendly hands-on class to learn about Matariki as well as harakeke and how to weave with it. This open class is suitable for weavers of all levels. You are invited to bring along harakeke you have harvested and items you are currently working on. Beginners will weave stars and make a star mobile to take home.
