The Pacific View Effect Group presents:
PVE is pleased to present a commemoration of Samoan independence. A group exhibition of outstanding new works by Samoan Artists: Allen Vili (aka Onesian), John Unasa, Lei Toetu, Peter Petelo Muavae, Ray-Gee and Tavita Mose. Their works are inspired pieces that explore their ‘Samoaness’, their history, their future through painting, pyrography, sculpture, tattoo and graphic art.
From 1908 to Samoan Independence day (June 2 1962) the Mau was a collective of proud Samoans who fought for Samoan independence. The beautiful art displayed in this show promises to celebrate this piece of history, educate those who don’t know the story, inspire the next generation and engage with new audiences. Set against the back drop of the Newton Pacific Islanders Presbyterian church in Auckland. This venue has been chosen for its significance as the spiritual home of Pasifika, especially for the Samoan people.
Part X: Mau Edition will run for an evening on Friday 5 June 2015 with live entertainment and refreshments.
