Pasifika Midwives Aotearoa “Island Night” Fundraiser

Support the Pasifika Midwives Aotearoa “Island Night” Fundraiser

Our Background

Pasifika Midwives Aotearoa was formed in 2012 as a response to the needs of our Pasifika Families and the disparities within our communities. Research shows that the workforce should reflect the ethnic profile of the community they serve for the best possible outcomes (Ministry of Health NZ, 2013).

The “Aunties” initiative was developed by the Pasifika Midwives Aotearoa group to support Pasifika Midwifery Students in view of the high attrition rates. Ministry of Health have stated that the initiative aligns with the Workforce Development Strategies. Pasifika Midwives Aotearoa receive no funding for this initiative. This has been a true “labour” of love where they are seeing results.

The purpose of our fundraiser is to continue with the work to “Grow Pasifika Midwives”. In 2013 a successful fundraiser was held which provided the means to fund the Inaugural National Pasifika Student Midwives Fono (March 2014).
