Romeo and Tusi

Romeo and Tusi
‘You are a coconut, he is a Kumara!’ says Mrs Ai’u, the Mrs Capulet in this reworking
of Romeo and Juliet
Written by Oscar Kightley and Erolia Ifopo, and directed by Sasha Gibb, Romeo and Tusi is a story of two teenagers growning up in a state housing area, whose parents are constantly at war with each other. With a meeting of fate at the ‘housie’, the two fall in love – but Romeo is Māori and Tusi is Samoan.
What follows is a hilarious Pacific twist on Shakespeare’s timeless classic.
