Auckland libraries is supporting Samoan Language Week.
Samoan is one of the most used languages in New Zealand. Join Auckland Libraries as they support Samoan Language Week 2014 with a wide range of events.
The theme for this year is “Taofimau i au measina – Hold fast to your cultural treasures.”
The word “measina” is similar to the word “taonga” in Māori and includes the Samoan language and culture, as well as artefacts such as fine mats, tapa cloths, head dresses, and body adornments, as well as celebratory ceremonies.
In light of this theme, many of the events below involve both listening to and learning the Samoan language, along with learning traditional Samoan crafts
