This year marks the 175th anniversary of the signing of Te Tiriti o Waitangi / the Treaty of Waitangi.
Along with the usual celebration around 6 February, we will be elevating the Auckland treaty signings in March, April and July with local libraries and manawhenua.
The first treaty events will take place from 2 to 6 of February. Auckland Libraries will offer guided tours through our extensive Māori collections, so if you’re interested in sourcing quality information on Mātauranga Māori (Māori knowledge), Te Reo Māori (Māori language), Kōrero o Te Tiriti (information about the treaty) and/or resources for tamariki, please enquire at your local library.
Join our library team on Friday 6 February at the Waitangi Day family celebrations from 10am to 5pm at Barry Curtis Park in Flatbush, Manukau. Entry is free.
Whaowhia te kete mātauranga hei oranga mō tātou katoa – fill your basket with knowledge for the wellbeing of all.
Nau mai, haere mai, ako mai – you’re all welcome to come learn with us.
Join us to find out more about the Treaty of Waitangi and its continuing significance to all New Zealanders.
3 February – 10 March
