An exhibition to celebrate Matariki, the Maori New Year by contemporary Maori artists who use a mixture of Western visual language and kaupapa Maori to describe their concerns and place in today’s society.
Artists include emerging and well established practitioners such as; Aroha Gossage, Akura Makea-Pardington, Tanya Ruka, Rik Wilson, Penny Howard, Hemi MacGregor, Nigel Borell, Michael Parekowhai, Chris Bailey, Star Gossage, Brett Graham and Brad Haami.
Brad Haami will also give a reading of his work on Sunday 6th July at 3pm – all welcome to this free event.
The opening event will include karakia, a performance by Te Puawaitanga o te Purapurapai of Birkdale Primary School and a whaikorero by Elizabeth Ellis, followed by a kai tahi. All welcome to this free event, donations welcomed.
