The Drowned World

The Drowned World, curated by Daniel Michael Satele for Tautai Contemporary Pacific Arts Trust, is a virtual exhibition of work by seven New Zealand-based, Pacific artists that explores the intimate connection between human life and water. The Drowned World will become available online on December 4 2014, with a launch event being held at Silo Park, Auckland.

As the twenty-first century promises rising sea levels and diminishing supplies of drinkable water, negotiating humans’ relationship with this crucial resource will become an increasingly urgent task for societies and individuals.

Curator Daniel Michael Satele says The Drowned World explores water’s capacity to destroy, sustain and transform human existence, asking how changes to the earth’s waterscape might affect our minds, bodies and social formations.
